Namaste Y'all

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Happy. New. Year. What exactly does Happy New Year imply & how does it apply to our daily lives? We hear it over & over, and it can almost become the surface level "how are you's" as we pass someone on the street. Happy New Year implies a new year to be happy and well. How do we even begin to practice such a task.. to be happy and well? For some, it comes easy and natural. For others, it's something to strive towards and work for. Either way, maintenance of happiness is one of the core unities of human existence. Who doesn't want to be happy and well?

When the Earth returns back to a specific place within our solar system, in terms of the sun, it creates an opportunity to reflect on the year prior, and to set our gaze to the horizon. Winter has also just begun which means the days are shorter and there are cooler temperatures. It's almost as if the way things are are laid out in a perfect way to set ourselves up for success. What better time to reflect on the past & to set new goals for the future than winter, where we can go within and have space to do so.

During the winter season, the energy of the earth (and its creatures) are drawn inward. We can use this time for introspection and restoration. Just like animals and most plants use it for hibernation, we are allowed to slow down and rejuvenate. To be fully present in the moment and being in tune with time can help us to slow down during the this season.  So, right now is a chance to still ourselves inside and as a time to slow down for Winter, yet welcoming the warmth of the sun that gradually becomes more plentiful moving forward after the recent Winter Solstice.

So what does yoga have to do with all this? Well, the science of Yoga can help us to be more in tune with our bodies, time and surroundings, moving with the flow opposed to against it. Older and recent studies are proposing that being in a state of flow creates an experience of of being in a state of bliss. Being in a state of focus and concentration (or meditation) can create being in a state of  bliss. Yoga isn't supernatural and isn't mystical, but subtle manifestations of experiences. There is an explanation for everything, and anything that tells us otherwise weakens the mind. We crave to experience things for ourselves, rather than others telling us what to feel and or think. American Author, Joseph Campbell, says it well..

"People say that what we're all seeking is a meaning for life. I don't think that's what we're really seeking. I think that what we're seeking is an experience of being alive, so that our life experiences on the purely physical plane will have resonances with our own innermost being and reality, so that we actually feel the rapture of being alive."

So, during the winter months while the days are darker and the nights are longer, we bring our focus and concentration inward, allowing the light within us to illuminate. As one polarity cannot exist without the other, the external darkness mustn’t exist without the internal light. Taking the time to reflect upon and study deep into our soul. We may not like everything that we find, but that is perfectly fine as long as we decide to own it. When we acknowledge the workings of within, we are able to heal and have choices of what we want to manifest in the future.

Sending you love, hugs, and prayers for the highest and best - physically, mentally, and spiritually.
